Battlefield, Campaign & Bespoke Tours
WATERLOO, PENINSULAR WAR, NAPOLEON, NELSON, WELLINGTON & MORE
There's a tour for you, designed for military history experts, enthusiasts, novices, friends & family
Whilst our 2020 Peninsular and Waterloo tour programme fell victim to Covid, we've been busy planning and enhancing our 2021, 2022 and future offerings. You'll find links to the itineraries of our latest tours on the Home page, and below. As much as anyone can, we've had a good Covid; if you'd like to see how we led the field please visit our Covid News page.
For 2021, 2022 or whenever we can re-start, we're building an "expressions of interest list". I plan to travel across Europe, when it is safe and proper to do so, to experience, in person, how the latest safety measures and regulations are working in practice. I’ll share the results with all who have reserved their place on our short-lists. Only once you and I are fully satisfied, armed with the latest knowledge and happy to travel, will we seek any commitment.
Once we are able to agree and confirm the best dates and final costs of the journeys with you, the first on the list will have first option to grab a place on tour, so do contact me now to secure that all-important option even if you are currently unsure.
In May, we hope to be following the Rifles in Portugal and then Wellington across Spain. I've added many new fascinating small battle locations to make this even more unbeatable. I'm particularly excited to share my all-time favourite spot, the magnificent Barba del Puerco gorge, twice, firstly on the Portugal tour, descending from the 95th Rifles perspective, whilst on the Spanish tour we'll descend from the French positions.
In June our great Waterloo Anniversary covers more ground than ever, with an extensive examination of the campaign full of freshly uncovered material that you simply won't come across elsewhere.
For July we reach across the Pyrenees covering the dramatic 1813-14 Peninsular campaigns and some truly exceptional scenery. Like all our scheduled tours, this is carefully timed to get the very best out of the history, the weather and the astounding scenery and wine routes we follow.
Our Bespoke Tailor-Made journeys, available on request, already include "Women at Waterloo", "Mercer's Bruges, Ghent, Waterloo & Paris", and absorbing 600 years of history from "Crecy to Dunkirk".
As ever all our tours are full of deep history, genuine cutting-edge historical analysis, fresh insights, exclusive locations, thoughtful itineraries and great experiences.
At the end of the 2019 touring season, before the world changed, I journeyed from Waterloo, across France, Spain, on to Portugal and back, uncovering even more unique locations, insights, fresh hotels, restaurants and vineyards for us to enjoy. This frequent in-depth touring yields truly intimate and expert knowledge of the landscapes to share with you on tour.
One of the joys of sharing a common interest is the friendships we build, and our 2021 / 2022 tours will be further boosted by the attendance of a number of our Contributing Experts. Our Rifles in Portugal tour is joined by both Rob Griffith and Bob Burnham, whilst Andrew Field joins us at Waterloo for plentiful French Perspective. I'm delighted to welcome them, and I'm sure you'll enjoy their great company too.
If the march of Covid keeps us apart in 2021, we'll take it on the chin and simply roll the tours into 2022, for which we also have a few other special new tours in planning!
If you really can't wait, then do call me about our special 4x4 'convoy' tours. This is the perfect solution for the Covid era, where you drive yourself, following me to all the locations, keeping your own family bubble. We're able to combine this approach with our out-of-season 'weather watch' journeys, only agreeing to "Go!" when the forecast looks great, so it really the best of both worlds once a degree of normality resumes.
If full details of the tours aren't yet released please do contact us - you might even influence our scheduled tour dates and itinerary with your special interests!
