Battlefield, Campaign & Bespoke Tours

There's a tour for you, designed for military history experts, enthusiasts, novices, friends & family

Whilst our 2020 and 2021 Peninsular and Waterloo tour programme fell victim to Covid, we've been busy planning and enhancing our 2022, 2023 and future offerings. You'll find links to the itineraries of our latest tours on the Home page, and below.

For 2022 and 2023 we're building an "expressions of interest list". Many of our guests from across the globe are rightly bemused at the ever-evolving, myriad, and often illogical regulations and restrictions. Before taking paying guests I plan to travel across Europe, when regulations permit, to experience, in person, how everything is really working out. I’ll share the results with all who have reserved their place on our short-lists. Only once you and I are fully satisfied, armed with the latest knowledge and happy to travel, will we seek any commitment.

Once we are able to agree and confirm the best dates and final costs of the journeys with you, the first on the list will have first option to grab a place on tour, so do contact me now to secure that all-important option even if you are currently unsure.

Yet we are fighting far more than Covid restrictions. Since the UK left the EU, British tour guides have been left 'up-in-the-air', wrapped in uncertainty and 'red tape'. This means that we may operate upcoming tours on a non-commercial basis, maybe for a year or more. More details and a deeper explanation appear on our News page. As every entertainer knows, and as audiences expect, the show must go on!

In May, we hope to be following the Rifles in Portugal and then Wellington across Spain. I've added many new fascinating small battle locations to make this even more unmissable. I'm particularly excited to share my all-time favourite spot, the magnificent Barba del Puerco gorge, twice, firstly on the Portugal tour, descending from the 95th Rifles perspective, whilst on the Spanish tour we'll descend from the French positions.

In June our great Waterloo Anniversary covers more ground than ever, with an extensive examination of the campaign full of freshly uncovered material that you simply won't come across elsewhere.

Then we reach across the Pyrenees covering the dramatic 1813-14 Peninsular campaigns and some truly exceptional scenery. Like all of our tours, we can run this when it best suits you, whilst aiming to get the very best out of the history, the weather, the astounding scenery and wine routes that we follow.

Our Bespoke Tailor-Made journeys, available on request, also include "Women of Waterloo", "Mercer's Bruges, Ghent, Waterloo & Paris", and the absorbing 600 years of history from "Crecy to Dunkirk", with "Napoleonic Champagne" also in planning.

As ever all our tours are full of deep history, genuine cutting-edge historical analysis, fresh insights, exclusive locations, thoughtful itineraries and great experiences.

One of the joys of sharing a common interest is the friendships we build, and our 2022 / 2023 tours will be further boosted by the attendance of a number of our Contributing Experts. Our Rifles in Portugal tour is joined by both Rob Griffith and Bob Burnham, whilst Andrew Field joins us at Waterloo for plentiful French Perspective (plus his recent fascination with the Brunswick, Dutch, Belgian, Nassau contingents). I'm delighted to welcome them, and I'm sure you'll enjoy their great company too.

If the march of Covid and the accompanying regulatory over-reach keeps us apart in 2022, we'll take it on the chin and simply roll the fun into 2023.

We're always interested in your interests - so if you'd like to influence tour dates and/or itinerary to match your own special interests then please do get in touch.
