PROFESSOR CHARLES ESDAILE
Spanish Peninsular War Experience
A fluent Spanish speaker and researcher at the interface of military, political and social history, Charles' unique skills cast a bright light on many under-appreciated aspects of history.
His work on the history of Spain from 1788 to 1939 explains the full context of Napoleon's Peninsular War, aspects of society, guerrillas and bandits, through to the Spanish Civil War.
The history of Revolutionary and Napoleonic France is well reflected in his work, stretching from nationalism and culture to the plight of women during the Peninsular War, whilst his specialist guides on the Siege of Burgos and Waterloo are available on the App Store.
Charles is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. He served as Vice-President of Peninsular 200 and holds the Legion of Merit from the International Napoleonic Society.
